English and FAMS | 2017

My name is Samantha Volk and I was a Lafayette College class of 2017 graduate. I double majored in Film & Media Studies and English with a writing focus and I earned honors in FAMS by turning a feature screenplay I wrote as my capstone into three TV episodes. While at Lafayette, I also completed a Division I volleyball career. After Lafayette, I attended Florida State University’s College of Motion Picture Arts and earned my Master of Fine Arts degree in Writing, with a focus in television. During this time, through first-hand experience, I learned each crew position on a film set, including pre- and post-production, and served as each position while shooting a dozen short films. I left FSU having written two feature-length screenplays, one of which earned quarterfinalist recognition at ScreenCraft, three pilots, two TV spec scripts, a play, and several pitches. I also wrote/directed a short film and co-wrote a short film with another student. Upon graduation, I moved to Los Angeles for an internship at Mandalay Sports Media where I wrote coverage for the Head of Development. I was also cinematographer on a short film produced by a group of FSU alumni. During the pandemic, as the film/tv world slowed down, I entered the world of copywriting and worked my way up to a senior-level position at Thrasio, an ecommerce company, and currently work as a copywriter at FEASTbox, a food production company in Utah.
